Metallic production value down by 18% in 2012
Mines and Geosciences Bureau,
May 20, 2013
| Total metallic production value went down by 18.04% from PhP122.98 billion to PhP100.80 billion in 2012 year-on-year, a shortfall of PhP22.19 billion. The disappointing performance of the metals during the period was brought about by a string of factors. Foremost among these was the 93% plunge in the documented output of small-scale miners, as reflected in the purchases of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), which pulled down overall gold production value by 44%. It was reported previously that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) strictly imposed the collection of the 2% excise tax and 5% creditable withholding tax (CWT) from small-scale gold producers/traders pursuant to Revenue Regulations No. 6-2012 dated April 2, 2012.
